Three tab and architectural shingle roofing
Architectural shingle roofing, on the other hand, offers a more interesting curb appeal. The shingles are smaller and square-shaped instead of rectangular. They have a more dimensional look because of the way they’re laid on the roof. Architectural shingles are also made from a higher quality asphalt than regular shingles and are thicker, which many south Florida customers appreciate.
Besides the aesthetic differences between asphalt shingles and architectural shingles, there’s also a difference in wind ratings between the two. Since architectural shingles are crafted to be thicker and made with higher quality materials, they’re rated to withstand winds up to 80 to 120 miles per hour, while asphalt shingles are only rated for winds up to 60 mph. Looking at the difference in the wind ratings, it’s easy to see why we recommend these kinds of shingles to meet all your roofing requirements.
Metal shingles and standing seam metal roofs
Metal roofing is popular for many of our Deerfield Beach and Boca Raton homeowners, as well as other customers in our South Florida service area. Cloud9 offers two types of metal roofing options: Stamped metal shingles and standing seam metal roofs.
Metal shingles are comprised of small, modular panels that are pressed to look like slate, shake, tile, or other shingle styles. They’re energy-efficient, coated with reflective paint that can reflect the heat in south Florida and keep the interior of your home cool. They also have a longer lifespan than asphalt shingles, which means that over time, you’ll end up spending less on roof repairs. Between utility cost savings and savings on maintenance, metal shingles are easier on your wallet than many other roofing materials.
Metal shingles are also easy to install, with fastenings that are hidden underneath the panels, protecting them from storms. They’re lightweight and easy to handle, too, so your installation goes fairly quickly.
Re-roofing, or installing a new roof over existing asphalt shingles, is a common fix to cover multiple leaks without the expense of installing a completely new roof. Stamped metal shingles are ideal for this process, as they have a higher profile and deep grooves that keep the shingles raised just above the old roof. They keep the asphalt shingles from blowing off and provide a smooth, even appearance.
Many of our customers like to customize their roofs, highlighting some of the unique details of their home’s exterior and boosting their curb appeal. Metal shingles offer a greater deal of flexibility as far as shape and design, color, and overall appearance. Plus, it’s easier for our customers who live in neighborhoods with an HOA to comply with exterior regulations.
While they have some of the benefits of metal shingles like reflecting the hot sun and durability, standing seam metal roofs are slightly different in installation and overall appearance. They’re more common on industrial or commercial structures but may look nice on modern-style homes, as well.
The sleek, straight lines of a standing seam metal roof work well for homes with complex, sophisticated designs and modern structures. You can also customize the colors, just like metal shingles. Standing seam metal roofs are available in either mechanically seamed double lock systems, which work best for low-sloping roofs, or snap-lock systems that better fit roofs with a pitch of 3/12 or higher.
As far as durability, standing seam metal roofs are sturdier than metal shingles and have an average lifespan of about 50 years, compared to 40 years for the shingle style. Standing seam metal roofs are also thicker than the shingles and can withstand damage from branches, hail, or other objects hitting them. For south Florida customers concerned about storm damage, these roofs offer a great deal of protection. They’re tested to meet industry standards for water submersion, impact, and wind uplift.
Concrete and clay tile
Clay and concrete tiles have an elegant appearance and are suited to complement any style of home in Boca Raton, Deerfield Beach, and Broward County. Clay tiles are also incredibly durable and may last even longer than your lifetime! Both of these roofing materials may require additional reinforcement, which our pre-installation inspection will determine.
